How to Tie A Karate Belt

How to Tie A Karate Belt

While your instructor should and most likely will teach you how to tie a karate belt, if you’d like to learn how to do it on your own then it is very simple. Learning to tie a karate belt is something most people learn on day one of their training, yet I always see people with their belts tied incorrectly. Every time you put on a uniform, you will be expected to tie your own belt perfectly, so you can see why this is an important thing to learn. Your karate belt is a symbol of the skill and knowledge you have in your respective style.

First, take your belt in your hands and divide it in half equally. Take the middle part of your belt and place it on the top part of your hips right below the belly button. Proceed to wrap the belt around you one time. Make sure the ends of the belts are even. Take the part of the belt in your right hand, cross it over the left, and then tuck it under BOTH layers of the belt going through the bottom and coming out the top. This should now be the left part of your belt. Take this same piece and cross it over the right one, and then put it through the hole you have just created. Pull the belt tightly, and there you go! You have successfully learned how to tie a karate belt.

Here’s a video I found on youtube that should help you visualize this better. I did not make this video myself, someone else did:
